Monument
Crystal Clear 207 was developed specifically to help artist Rachel
Whiteread do what had never been done before. Her dream was to create a
work of art to occupy the fourth plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square -
vacant for some 150 years. The work of art, entitled Monument, was a
water-clear, inversed representation of the granite plinth pedestal -
“a pause – a quiet moment in the bustle of Central London.”
Monument was the largest resin casting ever made at over 11 tonnes. It
required the development of a new resin; new methods of fabrication and
new methods of production.
